泰國衛生部18日證實，該國境內出現首起中東呼吸症候群冠狀病毒（MERS-CoV）確診病例，該病患是中東國家阿曼的75歲男性商人。另外，南韓18日通報，MERS死者新增3人，累計達23人，確診患者也新增3人，累計達165人。
15日和3家人抵曼谷
上述中東商人15日與3位家人抵達泰國，當天因為心臟問題而在首都曼谷接受治療，醫生發現他病情惡化，送他至另一家醫療機構，結果發現他感染MERS。
泰國衛生部長拉差達說，「根據2間實驗室的檢驗結果，我國境內確定發現MERS病毒。」該病患目前在中部暖武里府的感染病醫療機構接受隔離，病情穩定。他的3位親人、同機旅客、1名計程車司機在內的59人受到監控。
南韓增3例 死亡23人
在南韓方面，第141例MERS患者是在12日確診感染，但現今卻傳出這位41歲男病患9日即出現發燒咳嗽等症狀，但12日才打電話通報保健當局。
1患者曾住濟州島飯店
而本月5日至8日，他曾入住濟州島新羅飯店，連同妻兒在內共8人環島旅遊，並搭機往返首爾與濟州島。保健福祉部中央MERS管理對策本部17日通報濟州島衛生當局。
新羅飯店得知消息後，緊急進行消毒，曾接觸該病患的31名飯店員工也遭隔離監控，飯店發言人18日表示公司決定暫停營業。濟州島當局監控與該病患近距離接觸者，目前無人出現症狀。
世界衛生組織（WHO）祕書長陳馮富珍18日抵達首爾，與南韓外長尹炳世會面，商討對抗疫情。她說：「南韓爆發的疫情可得到控制，雖然需要的時間可能比預期來得長一些。」WHO預期南韓將再出現新病例。
